Use AutoCorrect in Microsoft Word

Image : http://www.flickr.com

AutoCorrect will:

· Correct common typing errors such as “teh” instead of “the”

· Capitalise the first letter of days of the week. So “Monday” is converted to “Monday”

· Capitalise the first letter of sentences

· Correct incorrect use of the Caps Lock key such as “sHOULD”

· Correct two initial capitals such as “SHould”

These options can be customised to fit you.

To open the AutoCorrect Options:

In Word 2003

Click Tools > AutoCorrect Options

In Word 2007

Click the Office Button > Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options

Check or uncheck the required options and click Ok

Add an AutoCorrect Entry

You can add an entry to the AutoCorrect dictionary. This is a fantastic feature to use to improve your productivity. It can greatly speed up data input and also help reduce spelling mistakes.

After adding an entry or changing the AutoCorrect options in Word, they are updated across all Microsoft Office applications improving your productivity when using Excel or Outlook also.

Let’s say I want to add Microsoft Office training to the dictionary so that whenever I enter mso into a Word document or Excel spreadsheet it automatically replaces the text with Microsoft Office training.

1. Open the AutoCorrect Options as mentioned previously depending on the version of Microsoft Word you are using

2. Enter mso in the Replace: box

3. Enter Microsoft Office training in the With: box

4. Click Ok

5. Click Ok again

Now whenever you enter mso into an Office application the text is automatically replaced with Microsoft Office training.

Preventing Automatic Replacement of Text

When Word replaces the text, a blue line appears below the first letter of the first word entered. If you point the mouse to this blue line a smart tag will appear providing AutoCorrect Options.

This tag allows you to stop Word automatically changing mso. This is useful when you need to enter the text mso. It may be somebody’s initials, an acronym, or the name of a project or company.

Click the AutoCorrect Options smart tag and select either Change back to “mso” or Stop Automatically Correcting “mso”.

This is useful but not particularly efficient. A good trick of the trade when using AutoCorrect is to precede the word to be replaced with a symbol. For example, instead of mso we could have used /mso or ?mso.

By using a set prefix for all your custom AutoCorrect entries, it will prevent the possibility of using the word mso in the future and AutoCorrect incorrectly replacing the word with Microsoft Office training.

Removing an AutoCorrect Entry

To remove an entry:

1. Open AutoCorrect Options

2. Enter the first few letters of the word in the Replace: box and select the word in the list

3. Click Delete

Visit Microsoft Office training at Computergaga.com to further increase your software skillset.

Microsoft Great Plains 10.0 Upgrade Scenarios

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Microsoft Dynamics GP, as Great Plains was renamed and associated with Microsoft Dynamics family of products, created by joining together with future synergy and integration purposes: Navision NAV, Axapta AX, Solomon SL, and Dynamics CRM, so now GP version 10 was introduced in Summer 2007 for MBS partners and then for customers. Version update will be the next step to be offered to GP customers. You should understand your ERP upgrade path and associated investment and possible risks. In this small article we would like to give you initial start for upgrade process and have you to think about it and do your homework.

1. Upgrade Path. MS Dynamics version update utility works by recognizing your current build and checks if it has upgrade path for your current version. If it doesn’t have it – it can not upgrade. Currently (no service packs were yet released for 10.0), GP 9.0 upgrade works if you applied SP 2. It also can initiate upgrade in you are on GP 8.0 with SP5. If you are on 9.0 without SP applied, consider to apply SP 2 and then move on to upgrade to GP 10.0. If you are on newer than 9.0 SP 2 build, you should wait GP 10.0 SP 1 to be released later in 2007.

2. Older versions. In you are on version, earlier than 8.0, such as 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0 or 7.5, you should consider updating to version 8.0 or 9.0 first, and then immediately update to version 10.0, assuming you are considering the contents of the paragraph above.

3. Pervasive SQL and Ctree/Faircom DB platforms. Microsoft Business Solutions decided to terminate support to these non-Microsoft DB platforms in December 2004. If you are still on these legacy platforms, you should consider migration. Migration is available for old versions up to 7.5. The technology of migration is straight forward – Dexterity module which allows you to connect old DB with newly created MS SQL Server Dynamics GP databases. Professional consultant help is highly recommended as migration has multiple what-ifs scenarios and may lead you to confusion

4. Third Party modules upgrade. If you deploy third party GP satellites, such as Mekorma, Avalara, Wennsoft, Horizon Manufacturing, etc. – you should check with them on the availability for the upgrade path for their modules and if required – wait.

5. Custom Technologies upgrade. Among customization technologies, you should identify if you deploy one of these: Microsoft Dexterity (former name is Great Plains Dexterity – chunk files, DYNAMICS.DIC with source code in needed to upgrade), VBA/Modifier (this is legacy OLE related technology, you should have DYNAMICS.VBA dictionary with VBA scripts in it), Integration Manager (you should find on your network IM.MDB file, where integrations metadata resides). eConnect eCommerce and GP Business Portal Upgrade paths are complex and require separate consideration outside of this article.

Microsoft CRM Lotus Notes Domino Connector FAQ

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Microsoft Business Solutions CRM and IBM Lotus Notes Domino, being two groupware products from competing software development leaders, however could coexist within one organization computer network and even work together in collaboration. There maybe multiple reason why corporation would use both products: licensing, commitment to IBM Lotus Notes as legacy product, risk balancing – staking on both Microsoft and Java/EJB/J2EE platforms, deploying Lotus advanced workflow to automate document management, etc. The need to synchronize MS CRM and Lotus Notes Domino databases is dictated by the ERP market and the connector is available. In this small article we’ll answer on the frequently asked questions.

o Messaging. Can MS CRM use Lotus Domino instead of Microsoft Exchange? Yes. MS CRM Lotus Domino connector allows you send messages from MS CRM objects: Lead, Account, Contact and all the future object, including Sales and Service modules

o Outgoing Messaging. When Microsoft CRM send email from Account, Contact, Lead – connector takes control over and sends email through Lotus Domino server. It has Java Agent at the Lotus side and MS CRM SDK custom piece at the MS CRM side. If you compare outgoing messaging with standard MS CRM Exchange connector, then mechanism is slightly different. Microsoft CRM Exchange connector places GUID in the message header and uses this GUID to identify the object in the responding email to push it back to CRM and attach. MS CRM Lotus connector doesn’t use GUID – instead it scans MS CRM objects (Accounts, Contacts, Leads) in smart cached way

o Incoming Messages. When Lotus Domino server receives email – Java Agent side of the connector triggers checking with MS CRM if addressor email matches with any Contact, Lead or Account email. In the case of the match – email is transferred into MS CRM in the form of activity of email type. Again – please note that connector doesn’t use GUID mechanism. We found that matching is better approach and we have Microsoft CRM Exchange advanced connector – which works with matching, without standard GUID mechanism.

o Microsoft CRM & Lotus Notes Events synchronization. Future version of the connector will synchronize MS CRM and Lotus Notes objects: Calendar, Appointment, Fax, Phone Call, etc. Please, note that Lotus has different objects – we have the matching table, please check with us.

o Lotus & MS CRM Versions. Lotus should be version 6.0 or higher. The reason for this is simple – version 6.0 supports Java Agent technology. MS CRM should be 1.2 or 3.0. Lotus could work in multiple hardware & OS platforms, such as Windows Server, AS/400, etc.

o Product Pricing. It is US$3k basic pack, including 30 users and then $75 each additional user. In Europe price is proportional in Euro.

o Support. Product is installed Worldwide and supported in Europe from German office, in the USA and Canada from Houston and Chicago, in South America, Africa, Australia, Asia, New Zealand from office in Sao Paulo Brazil.

Bing, Bing, Bing – What is Microsoft Bing?

Microsoft has recently launched its new search engine which is called Bing . Bing is launched in collaboration with Yahoo, which is the second best search engine. The aim is to overtake the dominance of Google as a search engine. Not going into business details, what you want to know is what is Bing.

With the launch of Windows 7, Bing comes as an integrated part of Internet Explorer. It is available on the upper right corner with a blue alphabet B meaning Bing. As soon as you type 3 alphabets of your search in Bing, your search is shortlisted many of the times with a tiny image display. And voila Bing get your results.

Well is this it? Guess what. Microsoft has introduced a series of Bing accelerators in IE8 (internet explorer 8). Confused? Well Bing is the search engine alright but its not just for text. You can Bing (search) for maps, language conversion and a lot more with just a right click. Confusion, confusion? Bing is pretty simple. Lets suppose you want to find the location of the restaurant about which you are reading reviews. All you have to do is select the address and right click map with Bing. And Bingo there you go, you have your restaurant on map. Amazing isn’t it.

With Windows 7 all set to be launched and Bing already launched in internet explorer 8 it will and already has attracted many users worldwide. After all what is more simple now Binging or Googling? The question still remains.

How To Fix The Microsoft Blue Screen Of Death

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Would you like to learn how to fix the Microsoft blue screen of death? This problem can happen even when your computer is at rest. For more people, this problem is quite frustrating and can be even worse then trojan or virus because if the problem does not lie in the hard disk (that’s where your data is stored) then it could be a problem with the hardware components.

For more people who have zero knowledge about PCs and operating systems, losing that Microsoft word document that required an hour to craft can be a disaster. Everytime we try to create a new document, there is a fear in the back of the mind that the blue screen will pop up again.

Another common symptom is the blue screen pop up that happens when loading start up applications. These applications could be accessing certain faulty locations in the registry or the RAM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. The CPU, or Central Processing Unit calls data from these locations. The Registry contains data concerning the printers, OS, video card drivers, components and software found in your computer. When faulty areas are accessed and the data returned by the RAM or Registry are corrupt, the blue screen pops up.

Sometime the error appears when the computer experiences shock, bumping a laptop against a table can cause the error to appear. This is usually temporary and will not happen again.

If the error persists more then once in a span of a few days, then you have a real Microsoft blue screen of death situation. Before deciding whether you really need a Microsoft blue screen of death fix, you may want to take a quick questionnaire to find out what problem you really have, and the best solution for your PC.

Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics GP Integration Manager Troubleshooting & FAQ

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In this small article we would like to give guidelines to Great Plains IT support people, who is trying to troubleshoot Microsoft Dynamics GP in-house, sometimes appealing to Microsoft Business Solutions support. GP IM is using several technologies, however the most popular is Great Plains workstation as OLE server – this technology comes back to 1990th when Microsoft was parading with its OLE, OLEDB, ODBC and other technologies and is tightly linked with Microsoft Data Access Components (MS DAC). In general you may think about processes this way – when you launch traditional IM it hides Microsoft Great Plains workstation and uses it behind the scenes to validate GP business logic

o IM Known Bugs. This is when you are getting error messages, related to MDAC libraries, such as TTGErrors. You have to look for the exact remedy in Microsoft Dynamics techknowledge database, but general rule is this – try to clean up MDAC installation, uninstall IM and then install newest MDAC and reinstall IM

o IM Registration issues. Since version 7.5 Microsoft requires IM to have separate reg key. Known issue with entering reg key is if you do not install IM properly, but simply copy GP workstation folder and IM program files – in this case Windows registry has no info about IM and it “forgets” about registration. You need to reinstall IM and apply recent IM service packs accordingly

o eConnect. This should be IM future, it is in process of being rewritten in eConnect. eConnect doesn’t have performance obstacles and doesn’t use OLE server. With this new technology IM will be capable to import unlimited number of records in “real time”

o Old versions of IM. Some versions of Great Plains Dynamics/eEnterprise were released with IM, which needed immediate service pack application – otherwise it simply was not functional. If you are on GP version 7.0 – please do not install IM from CD – look for the service pack
